Firstly...What does BelGato mean?
It means “Cool Cat” in Italian.
What is a “Cool Cat”?
A “cool cat” is a slang term that typically refers to
something or someone who is stylish,
charming, confident and composed,
often in a way that is effortless and nonchalant, hip
and charismatic. The purrrfect description of my favorite furballs. Oh yes...I am that person who loves a great cat, well any cat for that matter. Over the years I have very rarely been without a furry purry companion, and each one has captured my heart, made me laugh and brought me incredible comfort and joy.
There is nothing cooler than a Bel Gato!

Hi there.... I’m Shelley DeFrancisco
Thanks to some good genes, and my Mom who made growing up creative, fun and colourful, I have been an artist since the first day she put a crayon in my hand.
I am a mixed media collage artist “@artzpantz”, and when not in my studio I am an accomplished designer of interior and exterior space and all things that go in it.
My company DeFrancisco Design www.defranciscodesign.com has been my pride and joy for over 3 decades boasting a portfolio of stunning projects.

I have discovered a new passion for hand crafting designer, custom, one-of-a- kind, statement piece lampshades.
Handmade, from scratch, by me.
This new passion falls under the category of...” you can never keep a good designer down” and “it’s never too late to try something new.”
Not only are my lampshades unique and beautiful, but they also serve as both a functional lighting fixture and stunning works of art. They are the perfect statement piece that will elevate the style of any space.

The key distinction in making a double-sided lampshade is the sequence of the fabric application. The process begins by applying the inner fabric, followed by trimming. Then, the outer fabric is affixed to the remaining side.

The lampshade-making process begins with selecting fabric, followed by wrapping the lampshade rings in double-sided tape. These rings are then carefully rolled onto the fabric panels, ensuring the edges are neatly tucked.

Curious about how I create these stunning lampshades? The truth is, BelGato lampshades are meticulously crafted entirely by hand, starting from scratch.
how the journey unfolds
The result? A stunning BelGato lampshade.
It’s hard to pick a favourite design because I love them all, but often it seems the most favourite is the one I just finished. When I step back after tucking the edges, take a look, and I see it all come together, I fall in love with it every time.

If you require a specific colour palette, just send me pictures of your space
and I can recommend fabrics and colours.
I can also work with fabrics supplied by you if they are suitable.

single sided shades
Please note that a single side shade (white interior) will allow light through the shade sides as well as top and bottom.
Double sided shades
Please note that a double side shade with fabric on the interior and exterior will allow light through the side of the shade and the interior pattern will be visible when lit.
A Double Side with a vinyl interior will not let light permeate through the sides of the shade, the light will be directional. If the interior is metalic such as gold or copper, the interior will cast a lovely warm glow. This type of shade has 3 layers, fabric, PVC and vinyl. Remember, the bigger the shade the more light you will get.
FIRE RESISTANCE
The lampshade materials have been tested for fire resistance and comply with the BS EN 60598-1-2008 which is the British Standard for Luminaries. The PVC lampshade materials used have been tested in the Lighting Association Laboratories and have passed the Glow Wire Test. All fabrics, textiles or paper that is laminated to this PVC will become fire resistant.
